Now they opened a new shop, which is located very centrally: Frida Kahlo, Libros, Arte y Café, 11th Ave. 3 – 68, Zona 1, Telephone: 761-4465 (close to Pension Bonifaz at the Central Park). They have Spanish novels and poetry but also educational and scientific books. 4. New Discothèques opened Close to the Teatro Municipal a bunch of new hangouts opened. My favourite one is “La Fratta”, it is located in in the 14th Av. “A”, A-80, Zone 1. It is open Wednesdays to Sundays till approximately 1 a.m. Phone: 761-5602, their website will be http://www.lafratta.com, unfortunately it is still under construction. Two others have opened in the same sreet, just one block closer two the city centre. Still alive is Casa Verde (sometimes also called Greenhouse), a well known place in Xela. It is located in the 12th Av. 1 – 40. They offer drinks, food, music and sometimes theatre. 5. New email-address and homepage updated The school has a new email-address: You can contact them directly under mailbox@juansisay.com. After being in Xela in may I updated the schools’s homepage with some changed addresses and stuff like this. 6. Help for the children in Quetzaltenango Some of you may have been in Quetzaltenango before and may know the project the school runs to support children from poor families enabling to visit school. School isn’t really for free in Guatemala, the parents have to an inscription fee every year, have to pay uniforms and the school materials which is about 100 $-US a year. Due to their poverty and the number of children per family this is nearly impossible for a lot of families – the average yearly income of a single household is not more than 1.500 to 2.000 $-US. To help these children we (my wife, friends and I) have founded an organisation in Germany named Tob’anik e.V. (tob’anik is a quiche word meaning “to help”). The organisation was founded in the spring of this year after some month of preparation (legal and financial topics had to be cleared) and is now accepted as charitable in Germany which means that donations to the organisation are tax deductable. Please visit us on our homepage http://www.tobanik.de, even it is in German, you can download an English or French flyer as well which contains the most important information. This may the school became member of the organisation. Donated money will be completely transferred to the school. The school is responsible for the use of the money and will spent it for the above mentioned things. We hope to be able to support more children in the future than the school could in the past. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us using info@tobanik.de. We welcome any comment and will try to answer any questions. 7.
