Our Activities

As part of our progam, which focuses not only on classroom instruction, we offer activities every afternoon. The following is an example of a typical week:

Weekday Activity Example
Monday Movies about Latin America, especially Guatemala, with discussions afterwards "Hija del Puma"
"Danza de los 24 diablos"
Tuesday Excursions to places of interest nearby Quetzaltenango Zunil (San Simon)
Salcaja (oldest church in Central America, production of typical textiles)
San Andres Xecul (also one of the most famous and most beautiful churches of the country)
Wednesday English classes for children
 
Thursday "Conferencia". For the conferences we always invite local experts and have discussions afterwards. "Distribution of land in Guatemala"
"Current politics in Guatemala"
"Cosmovision and calendar of the Maya"
Guatemalan Civil War
Friday "Graduación". Graduation party for the students who are leaving. There is a different theme for the party every week. "Noche de cocteles"
"Noche de fogata y de poemas"
"Noche tradicional guatemalteca"
Saturday/
Sunday
On one day of the weekend we have a bigger excursion. "Fuentes Georginas" (hot sulfur springs near Zunil)
"Champerico" (small beach town by the Pacific coast)
"Zaculeu" (precolumbian capital of the Mayas with temples, ballcourts, etc.)

All of these activities are optional but are highly recommended as an important way to learn about Guatemalan life and culture.
